Okay, But WTF Is Paleoish?

The Paleoish lifestyle is…

100% Guilt-free.

Natural, wholesome, good for you.

A challenge that requires work (if you’re up for it).

The Paleoish lifestyle is not…

Your typical cookie-cutter diet plan.

An excuse for a cheat day.

One that expects you to be perfect all the time.

It’s All About Balance

An unconventional way to live.

We get it. It’s no easy feat to commit to living healthier, but here at Paleoish you won’t find a community of perfect health coaches shaming you for wanting a slice of pizza now and then. We are human, after all.

Everything we do is rooted in the idea of balance and freedom. We’re hardcore about the Paleo lifestyle for sure, but we prefer to keep it real and showcase our imperfect ISH side, too, and to empower you to do you. Our guidance, your choice. That’s the beauty of it.

Here’s your roadmap to living out your Paleoish lifestyle. Consider these guidelines as you establish a rhythm that best works for you.

Living Paleoish

Here’s your roadmap to living out your Paleoish lifestyle. Consider these guidelines as you establish a rhythm that best works for you.

01. Paleo at the Foundation

At the foundation of our brand is Paleo. Think: natural foods. You should be focused on foods that nourish you. Foods like vegetables, meat, seafood, fruit, nuts, and seeds. Use this as your true north when faced with food choices. We’re breaking down all the thumbs up and thumbs down foods here.

02. ISH Is All About You

The ISH is all about the choices you make (we’re talkin’ eat and drink!) to create balance during your journey to becoming your best self. While your ISH day is your one day a week to indulge a bit and eat foods that don’t fall within the Paleo guidelines, keep in mind this isn’t a cheat day. Remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place and listen to your body.

03. Give It Time

It takes two weeks to start a habit. With that in mind, know that first and foremost this is a challenge. It’ll be difficult to get started, but if you commit to this change and listen to your body, you’ll be proud of what you can accomplish along the way.

Just a Quick Note: Of course, this isn’t a guarantee. This whole journey starts with you wanting to change, and this determines the amount of ISH foods you should allow yourself. At the end of the day, you can’t have it all. It’ll be hard. It’ll be challenging, but discipline is what makes real change happen.

Your 45-Day Roadmap to Getting Started

Looking for a little more direction as you begin your journey to living Paleoish? We’ve gotchu. (We got you)

We recommend starting with 45 days to start living the Paleoish way. Why? We consider this our sweet spot to developing healthy long-term habits. Of course, it’s really up to you to keep (and maintain!) those habits! But these guidelines will give you some structure and support along the way.

Learn More About The Roadmap

Got Questions?

We got answers.

WTF is Paleoish?

Paleoish is a lifestyle brand offering a collaborative, personalized, somewhat laid-back approach to living healthier. We created this brand for those tired of the status quo. What we offer is so much more than a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. Just like you, we’re no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to healthy living. The Paleoish lifestyle is one without strict regimens, boxes, and absolutely no guilt. That’s why we’re PaleoISH. The ISH is all about you and the choices you make to create balance during your journey to becoming your best self.

Ok, but what is Paleo?

The Paleo lifestyle is all about eating natural foods. You should be focused on eating vegetables, meat, seafood, fruit, nuts, and seeds. You’ll want to avoid any processed foods, grains, or sugar. We break down all things Paleo even further on our Paleo hub here (link TBD).

What is ISH Day?

If you’ve decided to start your Paleoish Journey, this is your one day a week to indulge in some of your cravings if you’re reeeeally feeling it. Keep in mind, this isn’t an excuse to eat whatever you want all day. As always, listen to your body. And it’s important to remember that everyone’s ISH Day looks different.

For example, if you have a goal to lose weight, your ISH Day may look a bit different or even smaller than others. This is really about you listening to your body. Now, if you’re craving pizza, smash some pizza and continue on your Paleo way. If you’re feeling good, go ahead and skip your ISH day and keep fueling with the good stuff. For more tips and tricks to all things ISH, check out our ISH hub for more information.

How do I know how much ISH I can eat?

This all comes down to you being in touch with your body. We aren’t here to dictate what you can or can’t eat on your ISH day, as there are no rules! Over time, you’ll come to understand what your body is craving and what it needs. As always, our community is here to support you throughout this process. If you aren’t already, head to our Instagram for more Paleoish tips or reach out to us at hello@paleoish.com for additional support.

How do I start?

We’re glad you asked! You’re in the right place. First, map out your timeline and pick 45 days where you can really commit to this lifestyle shift. We’ve actually put together a 45-Day Roadmap to get you started here where we’re sharing guidelines, inspiration, tips and tricks and everything you need to chart out your meal plan, move, sleep, and everything in between.

What if I have more questions about the Paleoish lifestyle?

We get it. This is a big step and questions are going to come up! That’s why we’re always here for all the questions you’ve got on deck. Head to our Contact page to reach out or shoot us and email at hello@paleoish.com, and we’ll be right with you.

This Burger from @auchevaldiner hits the spot. 🍔 🍳 🥓

I always have to pay @auchevaldiner a visit when I’m in Chicago. This is their single burger (comes with two Pattie’s) with the egg and bacon. They use a thick cut bacon that’s cooked perfectly cooked along with the amazing egg that’s a must for the burger. Smash that down and I like to get a side of the garlic aioli for additional dipping.

Here’s how to clean and store your berries 🍓 🫐

This way you dont have to clean them every time you want some and they will last way longer once you follow this method.

Add your berries to a bowl with 1 tsp baking soda. Let soak for 12-15 min.

Drain and rinse off then add to a paper towel lined cutting board. Pat dry.

Add to a sheet tray and let it sit uncovered in the fridge for 1-2 hours.

Remove and add berries to a paper towel lined tupperware.

Bacon & Gruyere Starbucks Egg Bites // PALEOISH TAKES ON

Welcome to PALEOISH TAKES ON. This is a series where I take on restaurant favorite dishes and show you how to make it at home with cleaner ingredients. I am a huge fan of the Starbucks Egg Bites so pumped with how these turned out! Recipe is below.

INGREDIENTS

8 eggs
16 oz (1 LB) cottage cheese
1 pkg bacon
1 ¾ cup shredded gruyere cheese
1 ¾ cup shredded monterey jack cheese
1 tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper

STEPS

1. Start by cooking your bacon.  Get a package of bacon.  Add strips to a large sheet tray and space out a bit.  You could use two trays if you need more space. Add to the cold oven and set to 400 degrees.  Set a timer for 16 minutes and monitor the bacon.  Once crispy, remove from the oven and add bacon strips to a paper towel lined plate.  Pour the bacon grease on the tray to a bowl since we will be using this later.
2. Grab a high speed blender and add in the 8 cracked eggs, 16 oz cottage cheese, 1 ¾ cup shredded gruyere cheese, 1 ¾ cup shredded monterey jack cheese, 1 tbsp melted butter, 1 tsp hot sauce, 1 tsp salt, and ¼ tsp pepper. Blend up until smooth and set aside.
3. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Grab a muffin tin tray and a roasting pan.  You will set the muffin tin in the roasting tray and add a small layer of water so that it Is just covering a little bit of the bottom of the muffin tin.  Brush the muffin tin with the bacon grease so each one is coated.  Cut up the bacon so that it is in a large bacon bit size.  Add some of the bacon bits to the bottom of the muffin tray. Pour in the egg mixture leaving a little room at the top.  Sprinkle a little more bacon on top then bake in the middle of the oven for 30-35 minutes.  You want the egg bites to set so there shouldn’t be any remaining liquid present.  You could poke one of them with a toothpick and it should come out clean.
4. Remove egg bites from the muffin tin and enjoy!  You could cut around with a knife if they get a little stuck.

Cedar Plank Salmon with a Chipotle Honey Glaze | Corn Salsa | Guacamole

I partnered up with my friends over at @goodfoods to bring you this delicious Labor Day Grilling recipe. The cedar plank salmon pairs perfectly with the corn salsa and guacamole. Recipe is below 👇

INGREDIENTS:

4 salmon filets, skinless
2 corn on the cob
2 big shallots, diced
3 pieces of bacon, chopped
2 cups cherry tomatoes
@goodfoods guacamole
2 cedar planks, soaked in water

Chipotle Honey Glaze Ingredients:

1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup ketchup
1/3 cup water
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp white vinegar
2 chipotle peppers in adobe, seeds removed
1/2 tsp ancho chipotle powder or chili powder

STEPS:

Start by making the glaze by adding the glaze ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Add to a small sauce pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat for a few minutes.  Once it turns into a glaze with a maple syrup type texture, turn off the heat.  Add to a bowl and set aside.

Now let’s do the corn salsa.  Grab a pot and fill with water.  Once boiling, add a nice pinch of salt and shuck your corn on the cob and add to the water for 5 minutes.  Remove and let cool.  Cut the corn off the cob and add to a bowl. Slice your cherry tomatoes in half and set aside.  Grab a large saute pan and get on medium heat. Add in the bacon pieces and saute until they are crispy.  Remove bacon once crispy and leave the bacon fat in the pan.  Add in a little Olive oil and throw in the diced shallot and saute for 1-2 minutes.  Add in the corn and season with salt and pepper.  Saute for 2 minutes then add in the cherry tomatoes and bacon back to the pan.  Season with a little more salt and pepper. Add in 1 tbsp of butter then cook for 1-2 minutes and remove to a bowl.

Soak your cedar planks for 1-2 hours and dry. Get your grill to 500 degrees then turn off right side. Add salmon filets to planks. Season with Salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook salmon on indirect heat for 5 min. Coat with glaze then cook another 3-5 minutes until internal is 130 degrees. Plate and enjoy!

WOOD CUTTING BOARD CARE STEPS

Here’s how I like to take care of my wood cutting boards and what to do when you first get a new wood cutting board. I use @johnboosco Mystery Oil and you want to apply a nice layer so that it soaks into the board. Do this on both sides and let it sit overnight. Wipe off any excess oil the next day and apply more oil to any dry spots you see.

Now apply some @johnboosco Board Cream to protect the top layer from food and liquids. Apply a nice layer and work in both sides and let sit overnight. Do this process once a month depending on how much you are using the board.
